I've always wanted to make a bouquet! There's something beautiful about putting together a bundle of gorgeous blooms, releasing the fragrance of each flower. I once ready a book where the protagonist was a botanist, and I was so inspired by the thought that goes into each arrangement. I was also fascinated with the meanings of every bloom. It's on the bucket list to read an entire book on flowers, but for my first trial at a bouquet, I think I did a pretty damn fine job. Enjoy!

You know that feeling you get, when you're at peace with yourself and the world? When your insides just settle and you don't torn in any particular direction? I feel like that at the beach. The smell of the hot sand and the sounds of the crashing waves, and the hot and humid heat calms me down. It's my happy, zen place. And yesterday was not a let down. It was hot and sunny--and sure, it was mixed with intermittent sun showers, but it was divine.
Enjoy some pics of my Saturday beach day!
The first recorded use of the term "Happy Hour" was in 1914. And while today, us young folk know the term means 1) discounted drinks, 2) tipsy conversation with your friends, 3) possibly cute fellas that you and your girlfriends can make googly eyes (but never actually initiate anything).
According to a quick, but thorough Google search, the term "Happy Hour" didn't always mean discounted drinks in the middle of the day. It used to be a phrase used by The United State Navy abroad the US Arkansas during the First World War. It had come to mean a period of time during the week where sailors could enjoy smoking, games, boxing and other forms of entertainment.
Soon, during Prohibition the term came to mean: drinking a cocktail in a speakeasy before dinner. Alcohol was prohibited at restaurants, so one had to go in the late afternoon to imbibe in a lil bit of vodka or whiskey before going to dinner. And that's really how we use the definition still today.
So there you have it! A short and concise history of Happy Hour.
Even though I've only been an active participant in Happy Hour for a short period of time, I do thoroughly enjoy it. It's fun; you feel all grown-up while still being able to goof around. But every time I have tried to Happy Hour, it turns out unsuccessful! We either arrive too late, or the drinks are too expensive, or there's no where to sit.

Regardless, I have not actually been able to successfully partake in Happy Hour as of yet. Which is fine, but I yearn for the happy and blissful atmosphere that Happy Hour goers exude on Instagram and Pinterest. Maybe soon, I will claim that I have done right, and won at the game of Happy Hour. Stay tuned, folks.

They do also carry slip-ons and low-top sneakers, but I’m a sucker for a good high-top. Mine are the Sahara High-top, which looks like a terra cotta color. I’ll be honest, not the color I would have naturally gravitated toward but I like them, and while they’re different, they’re still a neutral color.

Another quick read from my current favorite author, Beatriz Williams. I’ve read several of her books and I always devour each one! She just writes in such a way that before I know it, I’ve been up all night and have finished the book in one sitting. For “The Secret Life of Violet Grant,” I realized I had pulled an all-nighter when the sun started peeking in through my curtains.
“A Hundred Summers” is a multi-linear story following the life of Lilly Dane. She fell hopelessly in love with Nick Greenwald, and for reasons I won’t spoil, they had to part ways, until seven years later, they meet again. And their story is even more tangled than before.
Beatriz Williams has the ability to teleport me to the past. Her prose is elegant, but not pedantic, which is a problem I have encountered before with historical fiction. I understand that our English vernacular has change over the years, but I don’t have patience when reading a monologue that I simply can’t follow. But Williams has found a way to stay true to the time periods she writes about, all the while, making the dialogue easy to follow and enjoyable.
This month has been filled with really good chill tunes. I’ve been into the whole retro and beachy vibes in fashion, literature and there’s no surprise that those feelings have overflowed into my musical taste.
So, the month of May was full of me jamming out to alt bands with chill notes. I curated a little playlist I think you guys might like if you are so inclined to listen!
Which I totally encourage if you’re in the mood for some groovy music that makes you happy!
